What's For Dinner? Or Breakfast? French Toast!

The weekend is nearly upon us!  Weekends make me think of big breakfasts, here's a breakfast idea for you incase you are like me and haven't had French Toast in a while!

Necessity is the mother of invention; such a deep quote to start an entry about French toast. Haha!

The other night I was running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off and I was stuck for a dinner idea. Normally my type A personality has me do a monthly dinner schedule up in advance, this helps give me a plan for grocery shopping instead of running around all willy-nilly throwing Doritos in the grocery cart. (Seriously, if it wouldn’t result in me weighing 1000 pounds and dying of a heart attack, every meal of mine would contain chips and chocolate, it's true.) It also helps to know that the next morning I am pulling something out to thaw that I didn’t have to think about while all sleepy eyed and in still in yawn mode. My monthly schedule ran out this week and I just updated it. However, the other night I didn’t know what to do, I was on a tight time constraint. I need easy, tasty and quick.  FRENCH TOAST! Easiest food ever! Breakfast for dinner strikes again!

So I grabbed my free-ish Bread. (On sale for $2 and had $1 off coupon AND then used Shoppers Optimum Points to purchase! Optimum Points technically are earned from purchasing so free-ish!)

I took a picture of the French side, as it was for French Toast :P

I made 8 pieces and used every drop of egg mixture.
8 slices of bread
3 eggs
¼ cup of milk
2 tbsp of sugar
1 tsp of cinnamon
1 tsp of Vanilla Crap! I was out of vanilla! Therefore, I improvised!
1 scoop of French Vanilla Protein Powder (At this stage I had already added the sugar in so I feared it would be super sweet, it was sweet but tolerable!)

(The white tub is the French Vanilla Protein Powder, the label was ripped off, same company as the chocolate, label looked the same!)

Pre-heat frying pan on medium heat.
(If you are using a non-stick pan you can skip any oil, if you are not, you could give your pan a spray of cooking oil.)

Mix/scramble the last 5 ingredients in the bowl. (It’s helpful to have a bowl that is big enough to lay a slice of bread flat into.)
Soak a piece of bread in bowl with the egg mixture, flip to make sure an even coating.
Soaking up every last drop.
Gently lay slices into the hot frying pan.
DON’T GET BUSY DOING SOMETHING ELSE! I nearly burnt my French toasts walking away to feed the dog!

Mine took about 2 to 3 minutes a side; you want each side to have an even golden brown cooked coating. (You will have to gently lift a piece to see if it is cooking, you don’t want raw egg!)
Flip and continue to cook.

Serve with syrup! And lots of it! (I had pre-cooked bacon that I nuked as a little treat!  In moderation of course!)
Yum!

The protein powder was a nice mix, I think it for a bit of a creamer taste and seemed to make it a bit more chewy, but in a good way. I guess it depends on how you like your French toast! Will I make these again with the protein powder? Oui!
