Aquafit

Since joining the gym, the scheduling was always off with my schedule for me to make the most use of the pool.  I LOVE to swim.  It seemed like I was only utilizing the pool first thing on weekends.  That sort of tapered off a bit as the summer was so darned busy.  My younger sister joined the gym a couple of months after my husband and I joined and she said “Let’s do Aquafit!” In my head I thought, “Isn’t that just for senior citizens?”  I never thought about joining up for Aquafit.  So we decided to try a class, it didn’t show an age restriction.

Let me tell you, this is my favourite new way to exercise.  First off, we were not the youngest people in the class, there were other young people.  In fact, there weren’t any seniors at all, not that I would have minded in the slightest, I love old peeps, just trying to help erase the stigma attached to Aquafit!  (I think they show up at the earlier class.)  The water adds a HUGE amount of resistance.  Plus, being in the water there is next to no impact on your joints, which is good as I have bad knees.  It’s challenging, but also I have fun.  I LOVE to swim and I LOVE to be in the water.  Plus it’s nice as you don’t sweat because you are constantly kept at a nice body temperature being in said water.  I hate to sweat.

The instructors are all young and seem quite enthusiastic.  Everyone is very respectful and try not to float in your way and give you adequate space.  No one leers or gawks at you in your swimsuit, it’s all like-minded people there to work out with lots of encouraging smiles and laughter.

I LOVE Aquafit, and was going through withdrawals when a few weeks ago they closed the pool for a week for repairs.  Now the pool is back open and my arse is in that pool for every Aquafit class that my schedule permits.
