This weekend was a fun one even though I didn’t get to do my big plans I had for Saturday.
Friday evening my husband and I had a relaxing evening at home.
We splurged and ordered a pizza. (This is exciting, as we never get to do this anymore.) We laid on the couch watching Season 2 of Veronica Mars. We didn’t watch Veronica Mars when it was on, not sure why, but we should have! Now we are watching it on DVD and I AM ADDICTED. I LOVE this show. Murder mysteries are my favourite books to read, I read every classic Nancy Drew growing up as a child, she was hands down my favourite heroine! Veronica Mars is like a modern day Nancy Drew. My husband loves it as Kristen Bell is on his celebrity crush list.
Saturday I was SUPPOSED to cross an item off my bucket list but it got rained out.
My sister was going to accompany me on my bucket list cross off, and we were also supposed to hit up the Zoo but that was rained out as well. Both the Zoo and the bucket list item are Groupons I purchased over the summer.
(I am a Groupon addict. This is the only way I can afford to do a few fun things a year. I have two other Groupons to use later this fall, but more on those when I get to do them! If you don’t know what Groupon is, I highly recommend you go to Groupon.com, enter your city and see what kind of deals you can find. They change daily and often only last a day so decide quick if you are going to purchase something! Groupon is great for people on a tight budget who want to have a little fun; with savings of at least 50%! They also make for great gifts! Helpful hint: if you know you are travelling somewhere within Canada or the United States, start following Groupon for that area. Best to do so a few months in advance, you may see a Groupon pop up for a fun attraction there, better to pay a portion of the cost instead of full price!)
Saturday’s plans were changed further as my husband had to work. Therefore, I spent the morning watching the rain pour down and then headed to my parents house for dinner. I love spending time with my parents, they are cool peeps. I talk to them every night on the phone, yes EVERY night. In the 5 years since I have moved out, I have only missed talking to my Dad one night and have talked to my Mom every single night, I try to see them if not every weekend at least every other weekend.
Sunday was a big day!
I woke up early Sunday morning to take advantage of Shoppers Drug Mart's 50th anniversary points event. I spent $27 and walked out with $80 worth of stuff. Score! Big savings, my favourite! This excitement was short lived. Before I left to go shopping, in order to get my car out the driveway, I parked my husband's car out on the street, on the wrong side of the road. (I know it wasn't right, but the event was calling me and I had just pulled immediately out of the driveway and parked. The back of his car was in line with our driveway. I did so safely as there was no one on the street at the time.) I came home to discover that the City frowns upon this; $25 for a parking ticket. I got my first EVER parking ticket! So I rephrase my previous statement: I spent $52 for $80 worth of stuff. Bah. I have no one to blame but myself! I also forgot to take pictures of my haul, I should have as I impressed myself. (I know, you are all disappointed.)
Sunday afternoon was the draft for my hockey league! Our hockey league is awesome and they had a big BBQ luncheon for the players and their families. Then they have a real professional-like draft! There are two levels of play Minor and Major: Minors typically have never played before (such as my sister and I), the Majors have more experience. My sister and I were drafted to the same team! Look out world! The Can-Opener Sisters are back in business! My husband plays in the Majors, but every Major team is linked to a Minor team, known as a “Franchise”. My sister, husband and I are franchise mates in the world’s greatest franchise! I am so excited! It’s going to be a really fun season. Last season was my rookie year; I started off not being able to skate and incredibly nervous about letting my team down. This season I can skate as smidgen better, and while I still don’t want to ever let my team down, I try not to let that fear consume me and am now able to not let it ruin my fun. (I am a neurotic head case!)
We got home around 5pm and I had planned on making meatloaf for dinner. I was exhausted but figured I would get 'er done anyways. I made the meatloaf large enough to for three dinners total (I froze the other two for a quick, home cooked meal later this month). We are like little old people as we eat dinner usually at 5:30pm every day, meatloaf takes about an hour and a half to cook. By the time every thing was ready we didn’t eat until 7pm. Roasted curried potatoes, veggies and meatloaf, yum. Our evening concluded with some Veronica Mars Season 3 and then bedtime!
A busy weekend, but fun!
