25 Questions: Holiday Style

As Christmas is just around the corner, I borrowed this survey from Peanut Butter Fingers, one of my favourite blogs. (Please do me a favour and“label” any of your Christmas posts, chances are I will read them numerous times through out the year. I am not a stalker or anything! I just love Christmas!!!)

Go a head and borrow this for your blog, or leave me your answers in a comment! I want to read your answers!!!

25 Questions: Holiday Style

·                         Eggnog or hot chocolate?

Hot Chocolate with whipped cream AND marshmallows (My butt didn’t get this size from nothing!).

·                         Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?

Growing up Santa ALWAYS wrapped the gifts, and in special North Pole paper that my Mom could never find at the store… ;)

·                         Colored lights on tree/house or white?

I like multi coloured outside (But they have to be all the same kind, different brands give off different shades, I don’t want them mixed.) and white on my tree inside.

·                         Do you hang mistletoe?

My Mom used to when we were growing up, but we don’t now.

·                         When do you hang your decorations up?

The weekend following Remembrance Day. (For my American readers, Canada celebrates Remembrance Day November 11th every year; it’s like your Veteran’s day.)

·                         What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?

My Dad’s stuffing, my Grandmother’s stuffing, my Grandmother’s dry garlic pork… the list goes on and on, I can’t choose just one.

·                         Favorite holiday memory as a child?

UGH, I CAN’T CHOOSE JUST ONE!!! THEY WERE ALL GREAT. Ok, here is a funnyish one; it’s very funny to our family at least.

Growing up, my younger sister and I NEVER slept through the night on Christmas. We drove our Mom nuts. Once when I was about 7 and my sister was 4, it was about 2 am and we snuck down the hallway to the living room to see if Santa had arrived. (We grew up sharing a room in my parents’ bungalow.) SANTA HAD ARRIVED!!! And even though there were no lights on, the street light cast a dull glow through the picture window in the living room. We couldn’t make out what was under the tree but it was clear we had been very good that year and made a good haul, judging by all the shadowy packages piled on the floor.
We thought we were being quite sneaky and quiet, the floors used to creak like crazy, so us tiptoeing around still gave away to our location (ie. Not in our beds). My Mom, who had already been up a few times to make us get back in our beds, made our Dad wake up and go find us and make us go back to bed.

My Dad shuffled down the hall in the dark. My sister and I heard him coming before we saw him so we raced across the living room (in front of the hall entrance) like a bunch of stampeding cows. We then pressed our backs up against the wall in the shadows as we were left without a good hiding place, but apparently, the shadows were a good place to hide. He walked right passed us, looked around the room, turned around facing us and returned back up the hall telling my Mom we weren’t out in the living room that we must be sleeping.
My Mom got up, as she was certain she had heard us out in the living room and caught us as we were tiptoeing back up the hallway to our bedroom.
My Dad must have been half a sleep as how he didn’t see us still makes my sister and I giggle hysterically. When we bring this story up every year, he chuckles at himself.

My poor Mom, she should have had Santa come back and take away those toys. I guess she figured we were good all year; luckily for us, one night of driving her nuts didn’t erase that.

·                         What is on your Christmas wish list?

A guitar! I need to learn to play the guitar; it’s on my bucket list.

·                         Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?

Growing up my younger sister and I were allowed to open one gift; usually it was Archie comics and Bop magazines. Then our parents thought we were too old for this so they stopped that. Therefore, my sister and I would buy each other two gifts: a small one for Christmas Eve and a regular one for Christmas Day.

Last year however, due to all the family commitments my family opened gifts on Christmas Eve and we opened gifts with my in-laws on Christmas Day

·                         How do you decorate your Christmas tree?

We ALWAYS get a live tree; in fact we cut our own. We start with clear lights and a thick ribbon. We use with a mixture of ornaments we have collected over the years. We use clear snowflakes as filler, but try to not over fill the tree; I like to be able to see each ornament individually.

·                         Snow? Love it or dread it?

SnOOooWWW I wanna wash my hands, my hair, my face with SNOW.

LOVE LOVE LOVE

·                         Real tree or fake tree?

REAL REAL REAL

·                         Do you remember your favorite gift?

My engagement ring (Awww…) My husband choose Christmas morning to propose so he “wouldn’t forget the date he propose.” (He has a terrible memory, so well thought out on his part.)  Also he gets huge kudos for tracking down the ORIGINAL 1945 Good Housekeeping that published the short story that It's a Wonderful Life is based off of.  "The Man Who Never Was Born."  That was impressive :)  I also received a framed photo of my favourite tree :)  Ahhh  so many!!!!  Hard to choose one!!!

·                         What’s the most important thing about Christmas for you?

FAMILY

·                         What is your favorite holiday dessert?

My Mom’s gingerbread men

·                         What is your favorite tradition?

So many of them: Candlelight Stroll, Christmas Parade, Christmas Eve h’orderves dinner, Christmas Eve Mass, Christmas Eve night at my husband’s friends house, Christmas Day afternoon at my in-laws, Christmas Day afternoon at my Grandparents with my Aunts, Uncles and cousins.

·                         What tops your tree?

A gold angel

·                         Do you prefer giving or receiving?

Giving! Shopping for the perfect gift is so enjoyable!

·                         What is your favorite Christmas song?

       White Christmas

·                         Candy canes, yuck or yum?

Yum, but I may just have one a year.

·                         Favorite Christmas movie?

It’s a Wonderful Life, followed closely by White Christmas

·                         What do you leave for Santa?

He used to get a can of Coca Cola, cookies and 9 carrots.

·                         Do you have a Christmas morning tradition?

A Big Lumberjack Breakfast!  With all the trimmings!!!

·                         Do you prefer to shop on-line or at the mall?

BOTH!

·                         Christmas letter or Christmas card?

BOTH!

  1. 1. Eggnog. Hands down. I was just bitching at the grocery store yesterday that the nog just isn't on the shelves yet. It's really one of the main things I look forward to during this season.

    2. Nothing wrapped! That's just silly. Why would Santa spend all that time wrapping? And nothing wrapped in the goshdang stocking either!!!

    3. White on the house outside and I mix it up on the tree inside depending on my mood that year. I have more version of tree lights than ornaments I think. Last year was multicoloured again. The year before all red. I looked like I lived in a red light whore house last year from the outside.

    4. No mistletoe in this house. Too lazy and frankly just don't care enough.

    5. Most times when my youngest irritates me with unending requests.

    6. Has to be stuffing, without question. I could eat an entire bowl. But my mom's sweet potatoes comes in a very, VERY close second.

    7. Hmmm, I really just enjoyed hanging with my siblings until it was time to wake my parents up, opening our stockings and gifts, listening to Blue Christmas, eating my moms homemade cinnimon buns, playing, going through our stuff, napping, then family visits and eating. Just the overall feeling of "home".

    8. I haven't thought about a Christmas List this year. Maybe a sweet 40 inch TV.

    9. The only time I open a gift on Christmas Eve is if we have gathered as a family to do a "christmas". This year we'll be with Eric's family for Christmas Eve, so yes, presents shall be opened.

    10. First the lights go on (with a lot of swearing), then the drapey stuff, then the ornaments. No rhyme or reason with the actual ornaments though.

    11. Snow, I like it only when I must not be out in it and no one I know and love has to be out in it. I love snow in night when the roads are quiet and the world is silent.

    12. Fake tree. After one of our cats decided to use our tree as a litter box I've been tainted.

    13. Favourite gift? No. Worst gift(s)? Yes.

    14. Family.

    15. My mom's homemade apple pie.

    16. Favourite Tradition? I, sadly, don't think we have a true tradition.

    17. An angel.

    18. I love love love picking out gifts. So giving is the best part for me. I like to watch each person open their gifts too, one at a time.

    19. Christmas Shoes. So sad.

    20. Fruit flavoured candy canes are pretty decent.

    21. A Christmas Story.

    22. I leave nothing out for Santa. Never did as a child, never did for my own children....weird how that became.

    23. Cinnimon Buns!!

    24. Online all the way! I hate people and crowds.

    25. Christmas letter!
