Niagara Falls History Museum

This past weekend my sister joined me as we went back in time via another Groupon I purchased earlier this year. My sister is an amateur history buff such as myself (we both inherited our love of history from our Dad J) and we spent the better part of Saturday afternoon spelunking around the Niagara Falls History Museum. It’s newly renovated and is now housed in an 1830 building that was the original Stamfordtownhall and a unique, modern, glassed attachment. I am not usually a fan of mixing modern with old, but I think they did a great job.

They had a display on loan from the Franklin Institute on electricity, which was fun. We loved this one display as this cat on the shelf looks just like my cat … and my cat would be the jerk to push a plugged in radio into a tub of water! (He is always up to no good!)

We then headed into the display of the War of 1812. The museum is located on Lundy’s Lane where arguably the bloodiest battle of the War of 1812 took place. (This area is also rumoured to be one of the most haunted areas in Canada) There War of 1812 display was my sister’s and my favourite part of the museum as there was an area where we could dress up in the British Red Coats and pose with fake muskets. We took pictures galore, but I will spare you from the shenanigans.

We then headed upstairs to display room that housed much of the history of Dare Devils and locals from Niagara Falls. That was fun to see. We were able to try and walk across a pole the width of the pole that the old Dare Devils used to walk on while walking across the Falls, my sister and I could both only go a few feet, how those Dare Devils used to walk across the falls on that tiny pole is just mind boggling.

Those do not look comfortable at all!

We had a lot of fun and the helpful curators indulged me with my numerous questions about the area and the paranormal happenings that have been told to also happen in the area.
While we were there, we found out that Thursday evenings from 5pm to 9pm entry to the museum is FREE. Yes, FREE. (Kind of makes me mad that I spent money on the Groupon, bah! But the Groupon was a good deal regardless, just not as good of a deal as being FREE *insert cheapskate grumbles*) CHECK THEM OUT - Niagara Falls History Museum!!!
Friday, December 14th the Niagara Falls History Museumis hosting a VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS!!! For $10 a person, you can view the displays and enjoy traditional Victorian Caroling! You should come out and support a local museum in a festive event!!!
