$5 Prime Rib Burgers! Coach and Horses Pub at the Moffat Inn

Last night we went with our friends to the Moffat Inn in Niagara-on-the-Lake (NOTL). The Moffat Inn is a beautiful inn neighbouring it’s sister company, the impressive Prince of Wales Hotel. I grew up in NOTL but I never had a chance to eat in the Moffat Inn at their Coach and Horses Pub.

During the month of October, every Wednesday evening they have a Prime Rib Burger and French Fries for $5 FOR LOCALS (Message me for the flyer, they don’t ask to see driver’s licenses or anything, I am assuming locals include neighbouring cities, all I did was show them the flyer!). Yes $5. All together! Not $5 for Fries and then an additional $5 for the burger.

We arrived at 6:15pmish.  (Free parking in NOTL after 6:30pm) We did not have to wait in line; we walked right in and picked a seat.  You enter at basement level descending a rustic brick staircase.  I should have taken a few pictures of the inside décor, there were beautiful stain glass windows, a large oak bar, a brick accent wall: I felt like I was in a classier version of Cheers.  (The TV show.)

The staff was friendly, albeit, when it got busy it seemed the two wait staff were really busy.  There was a mix up with our order not making it to the kitchen, computer glitch we were told, so we waited a bit for our food.  They compensated us without us even requesting for them to do so, so they get big points for that.  They were very polite and very sorry for the mix up.  We appreciated them for their professionalism and for the willingness to compensate us without us even having to ask.  (It probably helped that we were nice about the situation.)  The people around us got their food in a very timely manner so I believe this is a once of.  We didn’t mind much, we had great company so the conversation got us through most of our h-anger.  :)

When our burgers came out we were pleasantly surprised at the size of the burger and the serving of fries.  The fries were plentiful and had the perfect balance of crispyness, not overcooked.  (A bit too much salt)  Our burgers were tasty, slightly charred and a very decent sized portion.  (If you figure the size of a Harvey’s burger, the Moffat’s burgers were bigger.)  They have a really nice tasting pickle (if you like pickles!) and the tomato was very juicy.  The bun was tasty and had an egg wash on top, the bottom of the bun was wee thin.  Our burger and fries were piping hot when they came out.

All in all, we agreed it was very good value for our buck.

During the month of October, the Coach and Horses Pub is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

  1. The Moffatt Inn is haunted. Learned that on our ghost walk of NOTL last year. :) The burger looked great. I wonder if they have veggie burgers on the menu. Stupid Eric.
