Weekend Round Up

First off I want to give a shout out to a loyal reader:  My favourite hockey ref!  (She is a sweetheart, I love her!)  This Saturday she told me how she almost got in trouble for reading my blog at work on her forbidden cell phone.  I am always excited to hear when people love my blog, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, but don’t risk getting fired over reading it!  I promise the blog will be there when you get home ;)

Friday night we went to the NOTL Candle Light Stroll.  You can read about that here:
Saturday morning I woke up bright and early and got ready to go to the movie theatre to watch HOME ALONE on the big screen.  I LOVE this movie.  I remember in great detail going to see Home Alone for the first time when it first came out back in 1990.  I went with my Mom and younger sister and it was love at first sight.  (My Mom always bought us movie theatre popcorn and would pull out of her purse smuggled in Peanut M&M’s, the best movie snacks as far as I am concerned!!!)  I LOVE this movie.  I told my husband he didn’t need to come; I was alright going on my own.  The movie was shown as a “Family Favourite” so it only cost me $2.50.  Score!  I love a good deal!  I splurged and bought a small bag of popcorn for $7 with taxes.  RIDICULOUS!!!  I never buy movie theatre popcorn, even though I love it, it’s the principle of the matter: it’s a rip off!  But tastes oh so good, damn them!  I settled down with my popcorn and my smuggled in pop and Peanut M&Ms and went to turn my cell phone off.  My younger sister had texted me, she and her man were on their way!  So I got to watch my favourite movie with two of my favourite people!  (The old man neighbour makes me cry EVERY TIME: first in the church after he talks with Kevin and then of course at the very end.)

After the movie, I rushed home to grab my husband and we flew to my parents’ house to go CHRISTMAS TREE CUTTING!!!

Every year since I was seven, my family has cut down their own Christmas tree.  As I now have a house, we get two trees!  My parents, my younger sister, her man and my husband and I piled in our car and their truck and headed out to the country to get our tree.  We have been going to the same lot for the last 8 years or so.  They don’t prune the trees, they are very rustic and o’natural.  I enjoy them that way.  We had a great time hiking through the woods to find the “perfect for us” trees.  We were successful!

We all headed back to my parents were my Mom pumped us full of homemade sauce and pasta.  Yum!  Then my sister, her man, my husband and I all flew down to hockey.  My sister’s and my team won 3-0 and my husband’s team won 4-1.  My sister’s man was recently traded to my husband’s team and he got two goals!!!  It’s officially a family thing now!

Sunday morning I was up and at’em early as usual.  I was showered and at Walmart by 8am to get my grocery shopping done before the crowds arrived.  I headed back to my parents’ house to do some secret Christmas stuff without my husband around.  (It’s nice having my parents’ house to send Christmas packages to so my husband won’t see his gifts!)  I had a very nice visit, as usual!  And then I headed back to my house.  I hit up Food Basics on the way home as they had boneless, skinless, chicken breasts on for $2/pound.

I got home and put the groceries away, and then I headed back out to No Frills and Dollarama.  So many good sales on at our grocery stores this week, I had to stock up, our cupboards are now packed.   And I got our pets’ Christmas gifts done.  (They are spoiled, but we can’t leave them out!  They’re our family!)

My husband made me the best chicken cutlets for dinner.  I showed him how to make chicken cutlets when we first moved in together and his are now WAY BETTER then mine are!  I made chocolate chip cookies from a mix.  I prefer homemade but these are so quick when you are tired and just want to sit down.  I needed cookies to snack on after dinner, as we decorated the tree!!!  (Pictures to come in a Christmas décor blog entry hopefully in the next few days!!!)  It’s officially Christmas in our house!!!  We watched Once Upon a Time and I went to bed as I was exhausted.  A very busy weekend BUT SUPER FUN!!!

People ask me why I decorate so early, it’s simple: because EVERY weekend in December is now JAMMED pack!  I am looking forward to everything; I just hope I don’t get the Christmas burn out.  I like to do as much stuff a head of time so I can ENJOY the holiday, I don’t ever want to be the person is overwhelmed and ends up hating the season.

That’s our weekend!!!
